Engine stamp: question for the experts

I bought an undocumented 65 327/365 h.p. car. I recently received the original 'dealer invoice' from a previous owner from the 70's. It's the real deal as he knew the wheel wells had been shaved to accomadate tires for autocross. The vin is correct on the tranny, engine and dash. Most other components have the correct #'s as well. The engine stamp designation is close but not what's on the dealer invoice. The vin derivative is out from the cylinder head as it should be. Both the vin derivative and the engine designation are the correct size according to the 65 judging manual.
Here are the numbers: engine stamp F1209HH
    Invoice number F1204HL
    Any ideas?
I'm only curious as I bought the car to drive. I never expected to see the original 'dealer invoice' and If I don't find out another thing about the car that's o.k.

    Craig -

What document are you referring to as the "dealer invoice"? A factory GM document, or an invoice created by the dealer?

I'm not an expert but here's a little food for thought. HH is for 365 hp with manual trans. HL is 365 hp with Manual trans & transistor ignition. Does your car have transistor ignition? If it doesn't, then its possible that for some reason the factory shipped it with out the trans. ing. If your car does have trans. ing. then it may be possible that it was a miss installed engine.
Post a picture of the eng pad and invoice.
I'm sure that others will chime in with some other thoughts.

Thanks for getting back so soon. John, it is an invoice created by the dealer. 'Bud Weiser Motors' dated 1-19-65. And to Bill, yes it has transistor ignition. Unfortunatly, I don't have the ability to post a picture. I thought I might find a judge or vette expert in this neck of the woods to help verify it's authenticity.

John, not sure if you got my reply. The document is an invoice created by the dealership dated 1-19-65.

Might help if you could find a way to post a picture of the document and the engine pad. I've never heard of a dealer writing engine pad numbers on an invoice.

Maybe the guy who wrote up the sales invoice had a few too many beers that day... Seriously, Budweiser Motors? The first thing that I would do is order a Shipping Data Report from NCRS to verify the selling dealer's name.

              Thanks.

I am aware of a Bud Wiser in Northern Illinois (Rockford or Beloit or there abouts), but that may not be the only one. In this case that was the owner's name, and i am not sure of the car brand. The Shiopping Data Report would be $40 well spent IMO.

Michael, I'm no expert at this technology but my girlfriend is going to try and send something to this forum later tonight. The Dealer invoice has a letter head of the dealership 'Bud Weiser Motors'. It lists the vin and the engine stamp 'F1204HL'. It has the original owners name on it and the 1963 vette he traded in for this car I'm talking about. The Date on the invoice is 1-19-65. I don't know if he ordered this car or if he bought it off the showroom floor. I talked with the original owner the other day, so he is still around if there are some questions.

Ken, I had just received the shipping data report a few weeks earlier when I came across a previous owner in the 'Driveline' who had the original paperwork. I've been in contact with the dealership. In business since 1928. There in Beloit Wisconsin. You can visit them online.
I too have wondered if there could be a clerical error or maybe it's a warranty engine. Or ??????

On your NCRS Shipping Data Report, what's the date the car was produced/shipped?

Although pictures are never as good as seeing something with your own eyes, that doesn't look like a typical untouched factory-original pad to me, particularly the pad surface and character spacing of the Flint applied stamp.
