    68 427/390 heater core

My heater core is leaking in my 68 427/390, NO AC car. Removing it from the engine compartment looks doable to me. I have no interest in pulling my dash and interior apart. How many of you have been able to change the heater core from the firewall/engine compartment side on an early 3rd generation Corvette without AC? Not looking forward to it after just doing my 65.

    Thanks, Paul

I know someone that has, you have to grind out a small section by the water pipes to get the core in and out, but it is not noticeable when the outside housing is back on.

Not as big a deal as it looks like. We used to knock them out in about three hours. Remove the dash, all but one fastener is behind the dash. There is one nut located on the bottom flange on the engine side of the firewall. While you have the box off, it would be a good time to check the operation of all the doors and the seals on them

Thanks Ralph and Dick. I am determined to do it from the firewall side. Hopefully I'm not making it more complicated than it is.

            Paul------

I have replaced the heater core in my 1969 several times over the years. I would not even consider trying to do it from the engine side of the firewall. Among other things, I do not know how one would remove the bolt from the bracket which retains the core to the inner heater box if the job were attempted from the engine side.

Thanks Joe, I think you burst my bubble. I may have to go at it from the interior.
