Re: Painting a '67 grille?
This is how I finished my grille. Paint from the backside and then remove any fresh paint from chrome areas with solvent or steel wool that you couldn't mask off. I used Krylon dull aluminum paint.- Top

Re: Painting a '67 grille?
Stephen - thanks for the reply and pics. If I see your grille correctly, the vertical rib and the top horizontal bevels are unpainted, correct? How about the bottom beveled surface of the horizontal pieces?- Top

Re: Painting a '67 grille?
Mike, basically the "forward facing" surfaces are not painted. That includes the vertical ribs and the grille surround chrome surface as well as the horizontal bars.- Top

Re: Painting a '67 grille?
John and Stephen - thanks for your responses. It's clear now. I will use the paint from the rear technique. I have also had good luck wiping paint from chrome surfaces using lacquer thinner when painting my instrument cluster.- Top

Re: Painting a '67 grille?
Thought I would follow up with a couple of pics of my finished grille. I sprayed from the backside but did need a little touch up spray from the front. Then wiped the surfaces that stayed chrome carefully with lacquer thinner. Need to rivet the brackets on and install it now. Thanks to those that responded.- Top

Re: Painting a '67 grille?
That grille does look nice. Good job.
I believe they were painted, originally, using a mask. I know someone that has one of the original masks. He restored a 67 grille for me a while back and it came out great.Kramden- Top
