    72 door ajar switches

I am missing the two small plates inside the rear door pillar that support the 2 door ajar switches. I will have to make replacements as no one seems to offer replacements. How do I get these things in-place. Installing the rivets is the easy part. Any help/suggestions ? Thanks Rey S.

Are you sure they are missing and not laying inside the body mount or being held by the 2 switch wires?

Remove the access plate in the wheel well? Plenty of room to get your hand in there. I just did my Door Ajar Switches ('71) last week, and the plate on the LH side was hanging on the wires.

Both switches were FUBAR, and one wire on the RH side had obviously come in contact with the birdcage and shorted out. All good now.

Marc -- Thanks for the info -- Good news and bad -- The bad is that between the body mount cavity and the switch there is another bulk head which only has a one finger size hole.
The good is that Wilcox Corvette (website) is now mfg. these plates to replicate the originals. Mine are now on the way to my house. Anybody who would desire more info on this subject feel free to contact me directly.

To install the plates I used a die grinder on the small hole until the small plate would fit through the hole. To install the plate I used three foot of rope with a knot in the center. Put the small plate on the rope in the threaded hole and pull the rope through the hole in the body. The knot and rope will be used to hold the plate tight as you install pre fitted pop rivets.

Hi Lyle: I will put your advice to good use. I did use an inline die grinder with a thin cutoff wheel, went into the body bolt chamber and cut some from the inner bulk head to improve the access too the mounting position of the plate. Just waiting delivery of the new plates from Wilcox Corvette. Thanks for the info. -- Rey
