1969 1111491 distributor

Was the 1111491 distributor used on the '69 L46 a TI-only distributor or was this used for standard points ignition as well? I went in search for the TI amplifier to no avail (no mounting holes either), but I know there has been some body modifications to the front clip. Any help is very much appreciated.

The 1111491 dist is listed in the 70 Chevrolet/ 69 Corvette Chassis Service Manual as TI for a 350/350 but it was actually used on 70 LT-1's. It would not have been used with points on either a 69 or 70 Corvette.

Are you saying that the 491 was not used on '69s? Alan Colvin's book lists it for a '69 350/350, but does not provide details on TI. As a TI rookie, I would appreciate any tips on how to identify if this is a TI car.

Peter: See the thread I started on this distributor number on June 8. I think the source for Colvin's book was the Chevy service manual I quoted. What is the date on your distributor tag? Is it 69 or 70 model year? Does your car have a 61 amp alternator like LT-1s using this TI dist. I can get you pictures of my amplifier and wiring harness if it would help.

I perused your thread, it seemed more pertinent to a 1970 1111491 distributor for an LT-1, which requires TI. Unfortunately, I cannot read the date code as the distributor is still installed on the car. I do have the correct 1100884 alternator for my late build 1969 350/350. The car also has AC, which requires the 61A alternator.

I would like to see any pictures you may have. My amplifier is MIA, along with mounting holes for the system. I'm curious to how this would be affecting the performance. Cold start-ups are my biggest difficulty, but once warmed, idle is excellent. I typically have a stumble off the line.

Also, are there any other identifying features for TI? The AIM suggests that there is not.

And I'm still looking for confirmation that the 491 distributor was solely used for 350/350 with TI in 1969.

That's correct - the 491 distributor was only used on the 350/350 with T.I. in 1969. Since your amplifier is MIA, what's inside your distributor - the T.I. coil and pole piece (photo below), or points? The aluminum tag is easy to swap, and all of the distributors look alike externally.

Thanks for the picture John. Inside looks good, same with the ignition coil (as far as being TI, not as in overall condition). I did also happen to find the amplifier after tracing the wiring, it was not where I expected it to be at all. I thought I should be able to see it by popping the hood and looking down the front of the hood at the wheel well. My amplifier seems to be tucked well up in the corner, behind some front support. The picture is lousy, and I dropped a red arrow to try to identify it.

There is no correct location. I have seen the TI amplifiers installed anywhere from where they left a groove in the hood from contact to so far outboard that one could only tell there was an amplifier there by braille.
