    69 Alternator on Ebay...

    Hi Everyone,

I noticed this Alternator on Ebay and was wondering if the date code of 9A7 would fit with a July 69 build car? Also, is it the correct part for a 69 L68 with Air, Pwr Steer & TI?

    Cheers

The date code of January 7, 1969 would be outside the "6 month window" if your car was built after July 7, 1969.

The alternator is configurationally correct except for the installed fan and pulley which are not correct. Whether this is an original stamping is another matter. In my opinion, it is not.

      Agreed.
Just saw one like this at the Chapter meet 3 weeks ago. It's a restamped unit.

Why do you say it it a restamp? Is it because the letters & numbers are so uniform? I looked at 6 of them on our shelf (all 63 amp) & none were as nice as the picture. Most were a little faint & 1 was completely blank.

John Pirkle has my vote for Corvette alternators, starters, voltage regulators, horn relays and anything else that he carries. You know it done right and is correct with Pirkle.

Here is the alternator in question:

              $(KGrHqRHJFME916qNbucBPibGT78Ng~~60_12.JPG

              Irregularities I see:
1100825 - not on the same horizontal plane, spacing is irregular, different fonts used, varying depth from character to character
9A7 12V Neg- again not on same horioontal plane, poor spacing, should be "12VNEG" not "12V NEG"

I'm sorry, but that restamp was done one character at a time and shows it.
Originals were roll stamped all at the same time.

              Here is a real one:

Yes, the uniformity of the characters is part of it. Otherwise, it just doesn't "feel right" to me. Hard to say exactly what influences that perception.

                  Re: 69 Alternator on Ebay...

I just checked the 825 alternator on my '69 that I know to be original and here is my observation. The part has no space between the "1100" and the "825" It is stamped "1100825" not as shown on this piece. The "G" in NEG is even with the other letters. On this one the "G" appears to be lower than the "NE". Mine is much earlier (Oct '68 car) and I'm sure that it is possible that different batches had different stamping patterns. Just thought I woud point this out.

Out of curiosity, what are the thoughts on this other 1100825 being offered? they seem to have the same elements in question?

I think it has been massaged better than the first one.

All I will say is that David is trying to get his restamps by, lacks quite a bit yet.

At least the two in question are consistent with each other if nothing else

It's great to have a check and balance like this forum. I'm trying to get some information by ema from John Pirkles, without luck. Living in Australia makes it harder but should I ring instead?

My July 69 L36 with C60 Factory AC has the original 1100882 61A alternator. You can still see the original ink stamp. It is dated 8K30.
