    63 jack board bezel question

I was reading the JM on 63 jack board bezel, My 63 had a older pitted chrome bezel so I replaced it with a chrome one, JM stated it should be natural or zinc. Is the another 63 only part or were there chrome ones also? thanks Ed

Ed, another 63 only part. Take your old chrome one, remove the remaining chrome then polish the natural metal.

Thanks Harry, I through out the old one, I'll just dip the new one in battery acid and see if the chrome can be removed that way?

Ed, battery (sulfuric) acid will strip your chrome but you might want to dilute it about 8 to 1 with water (8 parts water 1 acid) so it doesn't eat it to quickly.

I used a sanding wheel on my small Dremel. When the chrome was gone I sanded with 400 to 12000 wet sand paper.

A plating shop will strip the chrome for you. Probably do it for a buck or two.

John, I found out today the bezel is not chrome, Its polished stainless steel. so I guess I still need another one, Hopefully it will not be the same.

A bezel with the correct finish is available and not very expensive.

I'm sorry I checked the vendor I last purchased one from and they no longer carry the 63 only bezel. It's getting harder and harder to get the right stuff.

The bezel in my 63 was rusty as I recall. Turns out it was in fact bare metal. But I ruined the originality of it as had it zincad plated.
Makes one wonder why in fact an piece of interior trim was bare metal. JD
