M21 Muncie speedo gear

Due to the total lack of normal intelligence, I managed to drop the speedo gear in the tail piece of the transmission. Any suggestions of retrieving this gear without removing trans from car. Oh yes , a m21 in a 57. any advise would be apprecianted.

Done that. I don't think you will ever get it out. Hey, its plastic. Let it live in there and buy another. Jim O.

The speedometer gear is in the extension housing, not the main case. Consequently, the only gears it could be "churned up" and "interact" with are the reverse gears. I don't think it would really damage these if that happened.

Seems like a lot of them come out of their normal hole with almost no teeth anyway. You are just completing the job.
