C2 Ignition Wire Support Bracket Finish

Here's a question that pertains specifically to my '65 300HP but would probably apply to any SB with a painted intake manifold. The left and right ignition wire support brackets (one also contains the coil support) are semi gloss black per the JM and both are secured by the rear intake manifold bolts. Would these brackets therefore have been installed at the factory prior to engine painting and would they not at least have some orange overspray at the attachment point.

    Thanks,

Page 105 of the 1965 JG does not address whether there should be any overspray, if that is what you mean. I realize that judges sometimes judge stuff that is not in the JG (you call it the JM) but I say that is a foul since it is not listed on the judging sheets. I would bet that those who have a '65 AIM will tell us that the brackets in question were installed after the manifold was painted. -Clark

      Clark,

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to remember to refer to JG rather than JM. My hang up is if the brackets were installed after the manifold was painted, then the manifold bolts would have to be removed after engine paint. I wouldn't think the factory would remove bolts which were already torqued to some specification for the manifold installation.

Dave, unable to help with question however it's not uncommon to remove intake manifold bolts to do something after paint.
Your thinking was same as mine, but it did happen. We will have to wait for experts to weight in.

Per the AIM, plug wires shields and the like were assembled at St louis, with or without shielding. Therfore, no paint on the black brackets. UPC 6 Sheet B3 in your handy assembly manual.

Here's a pic. of my 65. You can see the bracket is black and the bolt is orange.

That is correct, original bolt removed and replaced to add the stand.
