I don't know what the back spacing is with out measuring one but all you need to do is be sure you get a wheel stamped AZ and it will be correct.- Top

Re: Spare tire fit to carrier question
Doug,
Check the latest edition of The NCRS Driveline. There is a gentleman that has several different correct rims. I just bought a AG code rim for my '68 and at the time he had some AZ rims which is what you need. Super nice guy.
Good luck!!!

Re: Spare tire fit to carrier question
Joe / I know that all carriers are the same for those years, but in my 68 in the past someone tried to squeeze in a 69 AZ wheel with 225x70x15 spare and it cracked the top not the tub. Does that mean that somehow 68 is different or just a stupid previous owner...- Top

If by the "top" you mean the COVER, that piece was the same from 1968 through 1974. However, it did change after 1974 and it's possible that there was some change made as a result of the change to the 225-70-15 tire size first used for the 1978 model year. Nevertheless, folks have reported that they have used a 225-70-15 spare without problems with the spare tire carrier set-up on early C3's. If it works for them, it should work for you. I hope it works for me since I plan on using a 225-70-14 spare for my 1969.
The other thing is that the cover is made of a polypropylene-type plastic and it is fairly flexible. I'm surprised that it would crack even if there were some interference with the tire.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
