I as a young kid was always a fan of the TV show Route 66. I only watched it because of the Corvettes used in the show. I now have the series on DVD and believe that many different Corvettes were used. Some were automatics and some were solid lifer 4 speeds. At least that is what i have observed by rewinding and listening to sounds and how the cars were driven. I know that all C1s after the first episode were Fawn Beige and the Stinrays Sebring silver because they photo graphed better in black and white TV. But I was wondering if any of these cars turned up anywhere? Since these cars were used how would they be sold to the public? What would owner history revail? Since Chevrolet sponsored many of the shows what happends to those cars when Hollywood is finished with them. Anyone have such knowledge?

Re: Route 66 Corvettes
I watch it daily, as I can, on TV at 4pm, in southern Illinois. The first '61 was blue, '62 fawn, '63 silver. I like to look at all the old cars in the background as they travel and pull in places; a wonderful show.Dr. George

Re: Route 66 Corvettes
Unfortunately since GM provided multiple Corvettes to the Route 66 production company each season the assumption would be that at then end of each season the Corvettes would have disappeared back into the anonymity of the vast GM inventory, their idenity and history lost forever. If the series production records were still in existance then there woud be a strong chance that they would contain the VIN numbers of the various C1's used in each story. Perhaps if someone knew the right people to ask or places to look they could uncover the VIN numbers used.- Top

Re: Route 66 Corvettes
Back when I was a kid, my parents & us kids were taking a Sunday ride in Niagara Falls in llike August 63 and we drove by the CBS Eye tractor trailer and a car transporter by a motel with two Saddle Tan 64 Corvette convertibles and a couple other (1964 Chevrolet full size wagon) Chevrolet cars. I remember the Corvettes like it was yesterday. I was thrilled. I can't believe I was lucky enough to catch a view of my favorite car and TV series.- Top

Re: Route 66 Corvettes
One of the episodes clearly shows a 1961/1962 with the heavy duty brake option. I remember they remove one of the rear wheels and rig up a winch assembly to pull a well pump motor. You can clearly see the finned drums. Interesting that they would use a car with this option especially when today you hear how unsafe it is to drive on the street with these brakes.

I think our idea of "safe" today is far different than it was in 1961/1962. I know my perception today is different than it was back then.Terry- Top

Re: Route 66 Corvettes
I can't remember where it is but I have a picture of some Route 66 Corvettes, '62's, on a hauler. There are some interesting photos in an early Corvette News, again can't remember which one and mine are in storage, and also in circa 1962 TV Guides. In '62 Maharis had a tuxedo black, black interior, FI, hardtop, blackwall as his personal car. George Barris did one of the 62's with chrome wheels and chrome knock-offs. The luggage racks as used on the earlier cars were Amco's with oak slats added, at one time offered through Marion Weber's MG Mitten.- Top
