Just saw a video from a car dealer who claimed he was selling a 1960 Original surviver FI Corvette. Claimed the paint was original however i noticed that where the front bumpers wrap around the car the fake air ducts were the same color as the car. I thought those fake air ducts were flat black on C1s? The inside of the ducts here was Roman red like the rest of the car. Did some cars come from the factory with the ducts painted the same color as the car? He claimed the paint was orginal however it looked like new.

Re: Fake air ducts on 1960
He also does a walk around and when he opens the fuel door he says it has it original factory locking gas cap? Did Chevrolet offer locking gas caps in 1960?. He also says its a 270 Horsepower fuelie. One of 100 built. The video is from Motorrama classic cars in SC. I dont know how to post videos but I think this salesman does not know what he is talking about.- Top

"All original" except all the emblems have been replaced, 100% repaint. missing something from the door pillar area (oval hole?) Hate to look closely at the "all original" engine...Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Fake air ducts on 1960
First the seller does not know Corvettes, his terminology is limited.
The deck lid was called a tonneau cover, the trunk weatherstrip was called molding, etc, etc....
My observations on this ALL ORIGINAL car:
The car has convertible top latches but no top.
I didn't see a hardtop.
One reciever is off and in the top compartment.
FI was not 270 HP but 250 or 290 HP.
859 FI cars were made in 1960, not the rare numbers quoted.
The rear license plate holder is on upside down .
Looks like a spare license plate bracket on the rear crossmember.
Aftermarket radio.
Wrong shift knob.
End plates on dash pad should be polished SS.
No lip over lock on trunk, original paint??
Antenna not straight up.
Power window conduit hole in jams, no power windows.
Underside of hood the wrong color.
When running the oil pressure was very high and the battery gauge showed high charge and discharge at idle.
This is a great BUYER BEWARE vehicle...- Top

Re: Fake air ducts on 1960
In addition to what Bruce said above ( the dash end caps are CORRECT though), it's missing the front license plate assembly, the 4 rubber liners for the rear bumper mount openings are missing, it's missing the lower glove box trim piece, wing nut on top shield is wrong and it has a service replacement radiator and on and on and on.- Top

Re: Fake air ducts on 1960
I was talking to a friend (Shelby Mustang guy) and was wondering if they really think they can get away with putting this type of representation out there with out it being "vetted" ? Sad to say this car, a very nice one, will be sold to someone that may have not really looked into it very deeply.
This car really would need to be inspected, being a Fuel Injected 1960 adds immensely to its value.
My two cents

Re: Fake air ducts on 1960
That car is long gone from the dealer. Was a real car, just realized it belongs to a friend of mine. The salesman that did the video was totally clueless and is gone from the dealershipDick Whittington- Top
