    Distributor date code looks o/k?

Question. On my 1969 L68, looking at the distributor, in the car so can't pull it out right now. But, has Delco tag showing 1111926 and date code 8 J 30. So, is that Sept. 30, 1968? Tank sticker does not indicate TI ignition.

And, as my engine, trans., etc. have casting dates in January 69, and my car was built Jan. 25, 1969, would the above mentioned date distributor seem right? I assume it is the original distributor, also had a MS 360 12 VAC attached.

    Thanks,

    Doug

Hi. Just reposting the above, would appreciate comments as I plan on a distributor rebuild but want to make sure my dated one is within the NCRS guidelines.

    Tks. Doug

      Doug,

The number and date works just fine for your 69 L68. Your ID band is probably original but, something for you to check...on reproduction ID bands, the part number is often a smaller font than the other characters.

There are some good rebuilders out there that are fellow NCRS members.

Thanks Mark. Part numbers look like same font as date codes. Appreciate what others can do on a rebuild, although I just enjoy doing things like this myself.

That said, never did a complete distributor rebuild, so any comments / pointers would be appreciated. I have restored many cars over the years so I feel I can do this correctly.

My L68 is stock except for a 280 Magnum Comp Cam. so not sure if that would indicate a specific shim end play with an aftermarket cam.

        Tks. again.

        Doug

That's awesome you do things yourself!

BTW, you're correct on the date, it is Sep. 30, 1968.
