    Unknown part

I have an extra part from one of my restorations. Can anyone please tell me what year it fits and where it goes?

      Robert,

That's a steering column bracket that goes on the firewall and the mast slides through it. It's later than '57 as the '57 bracket only had 6 screw holes in it.

58 was also like the 57. I did a 60 that had the bracket pictured on it.

I thought the '56 had four holes for the Phillips screws, without the two on the top area, and the '57 had six, including the two on the top area.

In the 57 AIM, the revision says that on 10-11-56 2 additional screws were added. In the AIM it shows to drill 2 holes for those 2 screws in the top area of the cover.

edit.....I believe 58-62 did not use the cover plate shown as in 57. 58-62 uses the flat plate as the firewall is different, not curved on top. Pic of '59 firewall which is flat.

Pics of my sold '56 project....I recall only 4 screws. Then the two holes for the 1/4-20 bolts to hold the inner seal to it.

            Rich, you're correct; 56 = 4 screws, 57 = 6 screws. As I said I no nothing after that. Thanks, Gary....

Hi Gary, I recall you & several other gents here were my teachers when I got my '56 project several years ago. I knew nothing about the 56/57 cars then. I recall a question thread I had at that time and learned much about the differences between '56 and '57. One was about this cover plate and the differences in the screws that I learned from you.
