    C1 convertible top loop straps

What is the size of the machine screw that attaches the loop strap to the bottom bow of a C1? I understand it also uses a male snap so that the other end of the loop strap snaps into it when the top is up. Is that correct? The judging manuals, the ST-12 and the AIM do not specify this.

    Art -

My notes from my '57 restorations show that's a #10-32 screw thread for the rear bow end of the straps.

I just finished doing one and it is a 10-32 screw and it goes thru a snap that the other end of the strap fastenes into when the back bow is latched. The other snap is on the verticle rail by the side window near the top and it is used for holding the top together when you put it down. These are necessary for all to be there and working when you do a performance verciaiton judging. If you need pictures I could take some.

        Photo below shows that snap.

Thanks Joe & John. My '61 had 10-24 screws on the back bow and my '57 had 10-32 screws. Neither had the male snaps as part of them. Considering that both cars probably had more than one top installed during the 50 to 55 years, I'm not surprised at the variation and missing parts.

Here is a photo of that area from an original 1961 top. Have a lot more of that top if needed.

10x32 3/4 inch long for the ones on the bow. An ordinary bolt however won't fit. The head is too big to fit in the male snap part. You'll need to do some grinding.

Alan: I'm OK with the part that snaps onto the side frame. If you have a picture of the other end of the strap where it attaches to the rear bow that would be good. For example, what is the position of the strap when to top is up? Details, detail, details.

                  Art,
don't think any strap was left. Now I know nothing about C1's however here is another short of the area.
Perhaps you direct me a little more so I can find it.

Your picture shows the strap missing. It is supposed to attach to the bottom bow just outboard of the wide strap at the edge of the window. As I indicated in a previous post, some top installers probably left it out thinking it wasn't really needed.
