In my 65 coupe I have the standard chrome backed mirror (non day/night) but without a date stamp. I know that there should be a date stamp. It appears that the glass could have been replaced (there is a gap around circumference of glass to chrome body). Did the originals have "guide" on reverse next to stem? Is this a definitive way to tell an original? Mine does not have this marking. I'm now wondering if this entire mirror is a replacement. any thoughts appreciated. thanks Blake

Re: Help with 65 inside mirror
Blake, page 33 in the '65 JG gives a description but there is no mention of the word "Guide". The JG is clear that if you have the chrome-backed unit, there is a date code UNLESS your car has RPO Z01 (Comfort & Convenience Equipment option). The day/night mirror that is part of that option is chrome-backed but the glass has NO date code.
Without seeing your inside rearview mirror, I would guess that it is a reproduction. There is at least one person who can furnish you with a unit that has been restored. But, unless you are preparing your car for NCRS Flight judging, your present mirror, if functional, is suitable, correct in every detail, or not.
