65 4 speed muncie shifter

I'm having trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, seems to be harder to shift from 1st to 2nd, third to fourth is very easy to shift. it seems to be even harder to shift into these two gears after it warms up. Does the shifter need to be lubricated. Please help

Hate to say it, but it likely isn't the shifter. Check for full clutch release, Also run thru the shift pattern with the engine off. If the problem is still there, then shifter or trans are the issue. If not, look elsewhere. Start with a shifter alignment getting the rods properly centered. The procedure is in the service manual.

Thanks Bill. I just tried going thru the gears with the engine off, It feels the same way, its stiff from 1st to 2nd gear but shifts very easy from 3ed to 4th. I looked at the shifter in the neutral position the notches were lined up real good with the first in second gear linkage, the reverse linkage was off very little. I'm afraid its something inside the transmission, But it pulls good in all four gears it doesn't try to jump out of any of the gears. Thanks for your help!!
