C4 convertible top date code question

Just got a top flight award for my new 93 40th. Anv. convertible. The top does not have a date code on the plastic window and the manual says that it should. The car only has 18,00 miles and was built in August 92. I have no indication that the top has been replaced. Someone at Al Knoch said that some tops that year did not have a date code. Is there anyway to verify that some tops did not have a date code that year? I would appreciate any information regarding this question. I do not want to buy a new top unless necessary.

    Rod,

Where did you get the TOP FLIGHT? Chapter, Regional, or at the most recent National? I sure do not remember looking at your car at the San Diego National.
Did you ask Tom Barr the NTL for 1990-1996 about the "anamolie" of some cars not having date-coded tops?

Re: C4 convertible top date code question

My car was judged at a chapter event and Tom Barr was the team leader. The judging team just assumed that the top had been replaced. At that point I assumed that I would have to replace the top if I wanted to go to the next level. When I contacted AL Knoch I was told that their expert believed that some tops that year were not dated. I asked for some documentation and requested to have their expert call me. I have not yet heard back.

As you know GM as been known to make changes during a production year. An example is that my fuser puller is 3.5 inches long and found in the 92 model year and later 93's have a 1.25 inch puller found in the 94 model year. I am wondering if my early build date of 8/92 might have something to do with this issue.

Re: C4 convertible top date code question

I just got the car two weeks before the judging and did not have time to fix the simple things. The net score was 96.4 plus 3.5 points for driving to the event for a total of 99.9. I received a 3 point deduct on the window for originality. Probably not worth the expense to replace the top for 3 points. However I still would like to know if some windows were not date coded. There is always more to learn about these cars.
Thanks for the responses to my question.
