    best battery for my C6?

    Guys,
before taking a long summer trip, I plan to buy a new battery for my 2008 C6 coupe. What do you recommend? I'd like it to last at least as long as the original equipment one which is starting to show signs of age, especially since I'm not looking forward to indexing the windows and reseting whatever memory is lost when the battery is disconnected.
    thanks in advance

      Richard,

When the OEM battery in my 2008 left me high and dry twice (over a year ago, so you did well) I got a Deka battery. Made in the USA by East Penn Batteries.
East Penn Manufacturing is a private company and the world’s largest single-site, lead-acid battery facility. Serving the transportation, motive power, reserve power, and wire and cable markets.

I have had no issues and it fit like a glove. Deka batteries are available at Meijer here in the Midwest, but I live close to one of their warehouses and picked mine up there. A little banter (I instruct Auto Shop at the local Community College) and I got a discount. YMMV.

BTW: Unless your 2008 is different than mine (I doubt it) you will only have to index the windows -- a less than 30 second operation. Nothing else changes with the battery disconnect. There is a torque value for the battery terminal nut. The instructions are on the underside of the plastic battery terminal covers. Do not take the nut all the way off, and do not lose it. If you have a Z06 and don't have an old time battery lifting strap that attaches to the top terminals (Yes for all you old timers the C6 battery terminals are the old style top post. The more things change, the more they are the same.) you will need to use duct tape to remove it. See the Corvette Forum or PM me for more details. I can look up the torque values for the battery terminal nut, but you will need a 1/4-inch torque wrench to do that. Without a torque wrench a 10 mm nut driver will work, but be careful.

I'll start looking tomorrow but the Deka brand is not known to me in Colorado. I'm familiar with Sears Die Hard Gold, Odyssey, and Interstate having a good reputation. And, of course, Autozone and NAPA. I've been warned that my old favorite Gates' Optima is now made south of the border and a very poor choice. Good to hear that indexing is not a big deal.
thanks all for the advice and comments.

Michael, I will believe you about the service replacement, but I am pretty sure the OEM battery in my 2008 was made by Exide.

What is indexing power windows? My old Corvette's power windows they just go up and down and work the same when the battery is disconnected and connected.

my 1988 silverado is only on its second delco battery. the first one i changed out at 10 years just to be safe as i was using the truck a lot back then. this truck sets outside here in Pa winter and summer. now my 2008 corvette delco quit last fall but it was replace by a delco and we will see what happens. knock on wood mrs clem's 2004 impala has the original delco and every time i get in it i cross my fingers.

Ah, Jim. Welcome to the high-tech new century.

C6 side windows are ALL power. You can not get a C6 with manual windows.
When one opens a door on a C6 (and I won't go into how one does that because there is no door handle as you know it and no door lock for a key) the side window drops down an inch or so before the door latch is released. Similarly on closing the door -- after the door is latched the side window goes up an inch and is nestled in a groove in the roof weatherstrip. This tucks the top of the window glass into the roof weather strip for optimum sealing both from the weather and air drag at speed. C6s do not leak water even in a monsoon-like downpour, and some are capable of speeds in excess of 200 mph without the side windows pulling out at the top.

In order for the car's computer -- actually there are many computers on the C6 -- to know where the side windows are in their travel the side windows have to be "indexed" on the loss of power. It is a simple 30-second process, but essential to the proper operation of the side glass. Basically the process tells the BCM (Body Control Module) where the side window is in its travels.

When I left my 2008 with Dennis Clark in May and June he told me his son (I didn't get to meet him but I suspect he is in his 40s or 50s) found the operation of the side windows fascinating. He was taken with opening and closing the doors to see the window operation. I have a suspicion Dennis was also attracted to this "feature." I demonstrated to Dennis how the car starts with no key, but I suspect the technology of that was too over the top. The bells and whistles on a C6 can be fascinating, but of course one pays for those and there is always the chance of something going wrong. And there is lots to go wrong. If you know someone with one get them to take you for a ride. They are not your Corvette -- to paraphrase an Oldsmobile tag line.

since i don't drive my 08 every day i always leave the hood "poped" when in the garage so if i need to get to the battery i do not have to go thru opening the hatch.
