Are the radio capacitors needed?

I am getting ready to install my instrument cluster wiring harness back into my 72. While looking at it I noticed something wired into my brake light switch that I had not noticed before. After looking through some old posts, I determined that it was a capacitor for the radio.
I am planning on using a new stereo in the car. Are the capacitors still necessary to reduce noise in the radio system if you use a newer stereo? I wasn't going to bother taking it out if I didn't need to but I don't want to have to replace it later if it doesn't work.

The capacitor across the brake light switch was installed to minimize/eliminate any electrical "noise" (click) in the radio when you apply the brakes. Newer radios have better noise reduction built in so you probably won't realize that you left the capacitor out. Also it only comes into play when the brakes are activated, so just downshift a little more often...

Also AM radios were subject to noise to a greater degree than FM. Bottom line: you won't miss the capacitor.

You won't miss those capacitors unless you are having it judged!

No harm done leaving it there. That way, you don't have to worry about not having it in the event you need it.
