    Who's buying all the Corvettes?

My monthly newsletter from ProTeam informs me they sold over 120 Corvettes in June and now are almost sold out of any years of vintage Corvettes. Anyone know who is buying them all of a sudden and why?

The Chinese? Because they are the only ones with money? Seriously, I had the same thought. I wonder if it was one person or group or several individuals who couldn't resist "Christmas in July".

I recieved an email from them that says the inventory went to several high dollar collections (collectors).

There are a number of folk out there that do not keep track of money like most of us - for them $$$ are just a means of keeping score.........

Is Terry M retiring or getting out of the business?

It almost sounds like it, says they will concentrate on fewer, high dollar, very rare cars now.

As a ProTeam customer, I thought that I would weigh in, here. I certainly don't know why/how he let his inventory shrink so dramatically, but think about it. He attends EVERY collector car auction, all over the country. Many of these are the multi-day auctions such as the Mecums and the Barrett-Jacksons. I have seen him spending a lot of time with certain Corvettes that he was considering buying, just going over them. With the constant travel, the checking of possible buys, and the auction bidding process, he must spend 90 hours or more per week working. This has got to be tiring since in order to sell cars he constantly has to buy cars. Hopefully, he can semi-retire and just do what is the most fun. Perhaps he can finally take some time out. -Clark

Dick, how do you know Dana Mecum bought them? Is Dana collecting just Corvettes? I would doubt that Dana Mecum would buy Corvettes just to put them into his auction. Of course, with the tremendouse success that the Mecum Auctions have had in recent years, he must be raking in millions. Perhaps Dana is tired of the stock market, won't buy gold, and knows that high-end collector cars will appreciate. That is, if the appocalypse doesn't happen in December :-)

That's possible, everybody should retire someday, and as much as I love old cars, restorations, and rare cars, I would hate to ever have to do this for a living....
P.S. , I'm a ProTeam customer too, but probably not ever again.....

My impression was that the muscle car market, including our Corvette's, were beginning to fade as those of us who grew up with these cars are also beginning to fade . Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Better tell Mecum and BJ that!
