    Wiper over ride switch

Need help finding an windshield wiper over ride switch that operates correctly. I have to turn the knob on switch ccw to stop the wipers. Everything that I have read says to turn the knob cw to stop the wipers not ccw. Most reproduction switches you have to turn ccw to stop the wipers. I have a 69 coupe and a 70 switch for the wipers. Does anybody no of a switch that you turn cw to stop the wipers? Thank you.............................

Kevin my 1970 owners manual states to turn the over ride switch clockwise to stop the wipers on the windshield. I have not used my 70's over ride switch in many years, could of not told you this without reading the owners manual.

Jim my owners manual says the the same thing turn cw to stop the wipers but every switch I get turning it counter clockwise stops the wipers. You don't even have to have the switch installed I just hooked an ohm meter to the switch and you have continuity with the switch turned clockwise and no continuity when you turn switch counter clockwise stopping the wipers.

I just looked quickly at the 1970-72 TIM&JG -- the 68-69 version of the same is not close at hand -- and I could find no reference to the direction of operation of the wiper over ride switch. Kevin, what are your sources for the direction of operation? Is it just the owner's manual, or have you found other sources?

          Guys

I just referenced the '68-72 Ops Manual and PV Guide. Under wiper operation it says "Turn off the wiper service override switch under the steering column by rotating the switch clockwise while the wipers while they are in travel." Hope that helps.

Kevin, I don't know if it is possible that you can switch the electrical connector 180 degrees, I don't have my car near-by.I am working.

Terry the 1969 owners manual and the NCRS 1968-1972 corvette operations manual & performance verification test guide page 15 says to turn switch clockwise and wipers should stop.

Bob, I know you have to turn clockwise "maybe" but finding a switch that is open when you turn clockwise is the problem. All after market override switches you turn ccw to break the current in system. I'm using the same Ops Manual and PV guide and the owners manual and it says turn clockwise to stop the wipers.

OK, well I guess we need some folks with functioning 1968-1972 Corvettes to check the operation. Of course the more original car the better.

I suppose when we wrote than manual we took what the Owner's Manual says at face value. Or there really is a difference between OEM and reproduction switches. We need to know.

It just might go to prove one should always check cars for the "real deal."

Ed it would be inside the switch just moving the wires from one terminal to the other is just the same switch is either open or closed. Turning the switch ccw opens the switch and cw closes the switch providing a path for current to operate the wipers. I might have to open up the switch and see if I can move it 180. Thanks..............

Well I took a 70 switch p/n #3975371 and opened the switch up and reversed the contact plate so now it works correctly but still the wrong switch for that year. Someone should tell the manufacturers that they are doing it wrong oh mistake they are made over seas.

I just had a chance to check a 1970 -- I had to go to Louisiana to do it.

So as not to confuse anyone with which way the clock faces: If one were to put a white dot facing the driver on the knob -- to turn OFF the wipers turn the knob toward the driver's door.
