    61 - 62 Wiper Blades

The judging manual says "nonreplaceable" wiper blades. Can anyone post a picture of what they look like.
    Thanks,
    Pat

First off I'm not a straight axel guy but are you sure the wiper blades pictured are correct for the 1961-62 Corvettes? The Trico's that I have seen do not look like the ones pictured. Are they Anco's or some other supplier?

          Re: 61 - 62 Wiper Blades

I have collected hundreds and hundred of wiper blades back in the 1980's. The 2 photos on the left are of a "4 bar type" Trico wiper blade. The ends of the metal reinforcement on the rubber refill (with the "dots") originally had black plastic stops similar to the stop shown in the photo on the right. I do not believe that Trico refills with these black plastic stops were ever sold over the counter. My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962) does not list any refills (aka INSERT) for the 56-62 Corvettes.

GM # 3724030 is the part number for the wiper blade for the 55-62 (should be 56-62) Corvettes and is described as "4 bar type". The total length of the blades are about 12" long but the holders measure only about 11 5/8" long. The connector part is stamped "PAT. 2,752,626" on one side and "2807822" on the other. The top end of the holder is stamped "TRICO".

For 2 more photos of original 56-62 Corvette wiper blades see "The Corvette Restorer Magazine" Fall 1983, Vol. 10, No. 2 (page 27).

My grave error above. Those two are today's replacements made by Trico in Brownsville, TX. The pictures attached are on my other 62. If you can find them, I believe the RB-12-2 are the correct rubber inserts.

I believe the RB-12-2's are the best available, but use the latch-lock design to make them serviceable, as opposed to the molded ends that kept the original in place.

The above on the white 62 have the black plastice/rubber end caps on both ends of the blade. Picture doesn't show it very well.

RB-12 do not have the molded ends and can accept a bayonet or 53-55 hook style arm. RB12-2 have the molded ends and have a patent number on the attaching clip like the 56-59. i believe the 61-62 do not have a patent number on the attaching clip. also 61-62 have a longer "tang" to release the blade assembly from the arm. another item on the attaching clip is that the rivet appears around 58. before that time the top of clip was smooth.
