How to repair threads in 68 vert top mount

The tapped plate used to attach the convertible top assembly to the car has stripped threads. Since it is located inside the birdcage lock pillar and does not appear to be easy to remove I'm not sure how to repair or replace it. Anyone have experience or suggestions?

Just yesterday I had the same problem so went to Lowes and bought a 1/4-20 x 5/16 Brad hole T nut #880539 made by Hillman in Cincinnati, OH and pop rivited it into the header. Replaced the window trim and no one knows. Works fine so far.

William, Thanks, but perhaps I was not clear enough with my explanation. The area where I have a stripped thread is behind the seat where the top frame mounts to the body. Inside the steel channel which is the birdcage rear latch pillar is a plate with two tapped holes. The plate is held in place by a strap so that it can be moved to enable adjustment of the top assembly. The holes in the plate appear to be 3/8 fine thread. One of the tapped holes on the drivers side of my car is stripped. The only idea I've come up with is to cut a piece out of the birdcage channel to allow me to extract the plate, repair or replace it, and then weld the piece back into the birdcage. I've got the car completely disassembled, so this approach is possible, but I'm hoping someone has a better idea.

Using the good hole and its adjusting slot, bolt the plate into position where the stripped hole can be accessed through the other adjusing slot, then tap the stripped hole to the next larger size. As an alternative you may wish to replace the 3/8" bolt with a metric 10mm which is slighty larger and may have sufficient diameter to bite into the stripped hole. I realize this is a question that has been posted on the NCRS site and my solution may not pass muster regarding bolt size, head markings, etc., but so be it.
