    Thread size on starter solenoid

I just replaced the positive cable on my 62. This goes from the battery to the starter solenoid. What is the thread size on the brass nut on the solenoid? Mine was an oddball size (15 mm) but I never checked the thread size before putting it back on, a rather difficult process with the tight quarters. Bill

Bill, I believe the size & thread pitch is 10mmx 1.5 on the solonoid is that what your looking for?

That's a metric size. Why would my 62 have metric rather than SAE or USS? The size you give certainly seems about right and the nut was clearly 15mm. I'm confused.

Bill if you got a present day Delco replacement solenoid, there metric threads, As most replacement today are made. which stinks.

          Willard, right on.

All early starters used 3/8 - 16 coarse United States Thread Pitch.

          Never Metric.

Bill, You may be able to take a 3/8 x 16 tap and make your own threads. But is it worth it.

But 10 X 1.5 metric is close to 3/8 -16 but obviously not used on original starters.

Now things make sense. My old 62 has had most everything replaced prior to my ownership and it obviously has a new starter with metric threads. Thanks guys. Bill

                  Willard------

As previously stated, there were no metric thread sizes used on any C1 or C2 Corvette. Well, almost. There was one exception----the spark plugs which were 14 mm.

Later C3 Corvettes used a relatively small number of metric parts. C4 Corvettes are all metric except for the core engine.

Other than core engine, there is one exception to all metric sizes for C4 Corvettes which is also true for C5 and C6 Corvettes which are otherwise all metric. The exception: wheel rim diameter.
