    Tire size 67

So I've decided to use the original rally wheels, i'm looking at Firestone firehawk indy 500 215/70/15. The redlines in any brand just to much $$$ basically double+ in cost. My question after all the research is anyone using this tire and or size? If so please post your thoughts. Thanks

    John -

The 215/70-15 on stock rims can experiece some rubbing on the fender return flange on full lock and suspension compression, like entering a driveway; the 205/75-15 tire will not.

Not a lot of option in that tire size range, does the rubbing hit the fiberglass at all? Most tires in that size are trailer tires,

If it were me, I would go for the Michelin or Pirellis, they are higher speed rated tires which are usually better built. But if you want a white letter tire, Firestone is about the only one, except for TAs, which are not good tires in my opinion. I use 205s on my '67, I had heard about rubbing issues too, so decided to be safe.

I have 215/70-15 tire size on both my '66 and '67 with no rub-issues. If not mistaken, the 215's are closest in size to the original 7.75-15 tire size.

215/70-15 Michelins on my 67 with no rubbing lock to lock. Lots of retailers to choose from.

Will the 215/70's fit in the spare tire tub without deflating them?

No, you will need an original 7.75 x 15. Height and width is two issues that you need to be concerned with.

What about a 205X15? Wil it fit in the tire tub?

I recently purchase a set of (4) Michelin X 205/75R-15's from Diamondback with the 3/8 gold line application. They are mounted on an original set of KH knock off wheels. When I purchase the tires I first asked about the larger 215/70R-15's, an was told that they would not guarantee that the tires would not rub in some situations. I have a difficult driveway access and have had previous tires contact issues. Based on this information, and to play it safe, I purchase the Michelin X 205"s. For a spare I purchase separately the same size Michelin X in a black wall from Sams Club. There have been no issues with tires rubbing. Reguarding the spare tire tub fit: The tire tub & cover on my 66 are GM parts, not repops. The front bolts on the tire cover are the longer 10.5" length and the rear bolt assembly is the coresponding longer bolt. In addition, I added a stack of 4-5 washers to extend the length of the front bolts another 1/2" to 5/8". The tire diameter fits snugly into the tub and with the rear bolt fulll tightened up, the lower pivoting part of the tub touches the sides of the upper tub, as it should. Again, no issues with this tire brand and size.
