    Bolt Specification Needed

I was unpacking the new seat belt bolts to install my shoulder harnesses and it appears I got the incorrect bolts (two additional lap belt bolts). the AIM seems to indicate a bolt without a shoulder part number 3956042. Would anyone happen to have the spec on this bolt as I'd like to pick up a couple locally so I can finish the interior over the weekend.

Also when installing the seat belt bolts should I put any lock-tight on the threads to prevent backing out?

    Thanks,

    Glen

Glen I think that it is common practice to locite those bolts since you surley don't want those bolts to back out. Use the blue loctite and just One very small drop is all you'll need.

      Glen,

This bolt is listed in the GM parts books under Group 14.875 as "Bolt, shldr. harn. anchor plate reinf.", but no dimensions are given. The GM cross-reference part number at Corvette Central is CC# 483043. Take a look, if theirs is configured as original, it is a specialized bolt design.

        Hello Glen,
The shoulder belt reel bolts on my 71 (same # as your 72) are very similar in head appearance to the lap belt bolts on my 71.
The shoulder belt mount bolt has a flat head surface, while the lap belt bolt is slightly domed. They have what appears to be the same mfr. mark.
This is the lap belt bolt. I can take a picture of the shoulder reel bolt later this afternoon if you'd like.
        Regards,
        Alan

          Alan,

If you could take a photograph that would be a huge help. I ended up with all lap bolts and depending on what catalog I'm looking at I'm seeing several different styles of shoulder bolts. Thanks for all the help.

          Glen

            Hi Glen,
Here's one of the bolts from my 71's shoulder belt reel. It's listed as an 042 in the 71 AIM also.
A though interior judge could get a look at it with a mirror.
            Regards,
            Alan

              Alan,

Thanks for the photos. I'll get to work tracking a pair of these down.

              Have a great week,

              Glen
