    1971 Wipers--Only one speed--not two???

I had the motor rebuilt several years ago--but like most older vet owners never drive in the rain or use the wipers. The wipers work fine but I only have one speed--not two now. I think it is only the slower speed. Any thoughts on a simple solution here. I have spend too many hours getting thes to work and the squirters--but if you don't use them--they stop working well. Thanks.

Just to cover the easy stuff:

Be sure the wiper switch is properly grounded. The top of the instrument cluster often cracks at the weak points below the switch (it is designed to do so int he event of an accident, but it often cracks during removal/install) and when that happens the wiper switch looses the ground, sometimes intermittently.

Also be sure the connector on the back of the wiper switch is installed properly. Although it is difficult, it can be connected upside down resulting in improper operation of the wipers.

After that it is on to the harder stuff -- like being sure the wiring is continuous and in the proper place, and or course the obvious -- proper repair of the wiper motor.

To add what Terry says, I Like to just turn the switch on to the speed that does not work and start wiggling the connections at the wiper motor first since its the easiest thing to do.

I got the pump working--squirters are now working. The wipers will still not work on high. Checked it out and somethings wrong in switch or the wiring. Ordered a new switch--if that doesn't cure the problem, I will start following wires and connections. Can't be the motor--just rebuilt--famous last words.

        Thanks again Paul
