72 Convertible W/ Crate engine, Need Help Decoding Engine #'s

I bought this car a week or so ago, knowing it didn't have a matching #'s engine. Can anyone help me find out what this engine is? On the stamp pad it's showing: 1M0907, below that is: 2VP.
I would like to know if we can determine it's HP, 2-4 bolt main, compression ratio, anything pertinent to it's capabilities.
It's a good driver, but BUBBA has had his hands on this one for awhile. :>)
Thanks for any help on this.

I've heard of other engines with the same 1M0907 stamping albeit with variations of the 2VP portion. Possibly this is GM's coding for a particular config of crate engine but no one has come forward with any sort of decoding as yet. What's the casting number and date?

Does the previous owner have any informatoin on the engine? Have you called Chevrolet? They might be able to identify the stamped information.

Previous owner was of little help other than to say he thought the engine was put in in 08 (previous owner to him).
I think the 0907 is for September of 07, not sure about the 1M part of the sequence 1M0907.
Not at all sure about the 2VP part # for what it means. The engine appears to have been put in as one where the Intake and carb and distributor was not supplied. It is a black engine and has an Elderbrock intake and carb on it. It has the tack drive, points distributor on it.
Was hopeing someone on here may have an engine with this 2VP stamping on theirs and could share some light as to what I have.
        Thanks,
        John L.

The "M" character of the code represents Toluca, Mexico which is where most SERVICE small blocks have been manufactured since Flint V-8 engine was shut down quite a few years ago.

I don't have a decode for the "2VP" which is probably what identifies the engine. However, based upon your general description of the engine, it is likely a GM #12499529 engine assembly. If so, this engine has 4 bolt main bearing caps and a cast nodular iron crankshaft. It uses the L-46/L-82 hydraulic camshaft and produces 290 HP. It uses a 2 piece rear seal. This is a very good and popular street engine. Of course, this is only my opinion of what the engine might be. It could be one of several other engines.

Thanks Joe, appreciate the information! M=Mexico makes sense. I knew about the current engines being produced in Mexico, I just didn't remember. Thanks for waking me up.
I'm also looking into what the designator is for the "2VP" is, I'll let you know when I find out.
I'm somewhat confident the 1M0907 is for September 07, as the previous owner told me he purchased the car in May of 09 and the engine had been changed in 08 per the previous owner to him.
It's amazing that I am having such a hard time finding out what the 2VP stands for. I have been on the internet looking at many different web sites and there isn't much information out there. I checked many Corvette sites, Camaro and Chevell sites also. I only found out regarding the date code. You would think after so many years that these engines have been out we should find somewhere a listing of how the stampings designate engine size (HP) and assemblies (2-4 bolt main blocks) type of cams, ect.
Appreciate your insight into what you feel this engine may be.

Actually John the lack of information is not too surprising given that most judging organizations (regardless of the Chevrolet model) take the position that once the engine is identified as NOM they just don't care about it. We even get regular questions on this board about CE stamped blocks; and information for them is not too common on other sites.

I have even seen a thread on a Chevelle site criticizing NCRS' attitude toward restamped engines. They (at least the members posting. Full disclosure: I have no idea what their judging rules are. They don't make them readily available, if at all.) just disregard the whole car once the engine is determined to be not original.
