    T3 headlights

I'm looking to buy a set of t3 headlights. My question is are the reproduction of t3 oem judge worthy by ncrs standards? Your insight is appreciated.

    Re: T3 headlights

Morris, the reproduction T-3 headlamps have a DOT symbol that the judges look for. NCRS standards are NON-DOT for T-3 headlamps.

1953-1973 model years do not have DOT markings on headlights. There is a 3 point deduct per car for a full set. See Judging Reference Manual page 31.

            Morris,
The earlier reproductions had DOT embossed on the clear glass and was visible to the judges. The newer reproductions have the DOT on the back of the lens and out of sight to the judges. With that change the only way to differientate is the configuration of the filament itself.

I saw a set of NOS T3s on Ebay go for $500. Some one wanted them badly.

Morris, check out this previous thread wherein I posted a pic of the tiny DOT mark (apparently the earlier repos based on Dave's comments) in the #7 post:

They are worth a 3pt deduct if that still applies. At least you can see at night. JMHO. BTW do they pass the brightness test during PV?

Morris, if you're asking me, and if by "pass" you mean did it draw no deducts, the answer is "no". My earlier repos drew a 3 point deduct each time through multiple judgings. But as noted above, they are nice and bright for night driving, and are far less likely to fail during Operations Flight judging, which failures draw large (I think 25 points) deducts.

                      My repos did.

                        Maury -

Forget original T-3's - they're about like kerosene lanterns in terms of brightness compared to more modern conventional headlights, and T-3's are 50 years old and are highly prone to failure (which is a 25-point hit in Operations judging). A full set of reproduction T-3's (made by Wagner Electric) are bright, reliable, and are only a 3-point deduction in Flight judging.

I am looking at page 31 of my copy of the 1953-1993 Corvette Judging Reference Manual (7th Edition) and there is no statements about headlights. Perhaps you meant the '66 Judging Guide?

My '65 has the reproduction T3 headlights. I looked at my most recent judging sheet and the sheet (section 12 Headlight Area) states that there is a 3 points per bulb deduction. However, the exterior judging team deducted only 3 points for my four headlights. Can anyone explain the confusion?
