Speed sensor to use on 1990 Six Speed manual trany

My original speed sensor went out, speedometer and cruise not working. Error code was 24.
Part number called for per my GM parts book is 25007308. Of course not available anywhere.
Auto parts stores have one available for 2.59/2,73 axle ratio. My axle is 3.33, for part # 25007308
it specifies for axle 3.07. With the 6 Sp I am not sure if mine is 3.07 or 3.33. Don't know that
it matters, because my original removed sensor had a black 40 tooth gear on it. Question: Can I
use the new speed sensor the parts stores sell for my '90 base eng. 6 sp manual?
Aftermarket types are made by Borg Warner and Wells, etc.

Fred, I don't know if the gear comes off the end of speed sensor, If it does remove and the sensor and housing from the after market appears to configue the same, It should work as the sensor its self is a magnetic generator which creates voltage as it spins, And gear on the end of sensor is calibrated for you car. I hope you can make heads or tails of what I said. Ed

      ED,
I appreciate what you wrote. The gear slips right off easy. That was my thinking also. In that case I am going to order one in and make sure my gear slips on the shaft, and the 2 wire connector will plug in.

Thanks, and you were very clear on your explanation.
