    72 Vin #'s

I understand that there is a "hidden" vin # somewhere on the frame of the vehicle or somewhere on the car. Where ????

Ray, my understanding the VIN number is on the kick up of the frame on drivers side and the body mount area driver side door next to the mount.

The one at the rear of the left frame rail is usually above the axle shaft -- more or less. It can however be anywhere on that frame rail from the kick up back to the rear of the car. If the frame is in good condition, and that is a big if, one can usually see it reflected in a mirror held at an angle above the frame rail. Sometimes running a wire brush over the top of the frame rail will help, but if there is much corrosion you will be SOL.

The one under the drivers left hip that Ed referred to is impossible to get to without removing the body. I did see one Corvette that the state employees cut a hole in the top of the rocker -- didn't even remove the sill plate -- to get to in the process of awarding the car a state issued VIN tag. Those guys were brutal.

Terry, in those locations do you know if the vin # is stenciled or stamped. Also are they the full vin # or the vin derivative as what is found on the tranny and the stamp pad

They are stamped and it is the VIN derivative just as found on the engine pad or transmission side. The numbers were not always stamped very heavily either.

            Rey -

Generally they're located adjacent to the front edge of the #4 body mount, but it varied.

Doing a body off, but only visible after sandblasting and indeed not very heavy, located in line with John's comment.

I was able to get a decent photograph of my June build 1972 with the body on and without the tank.
