C1 Parts Dates vs Assembley Date

I am just starting on my new Barn Find, a 1956 that has been stored in a shed for 40 years. I am more familiar with C2 and C3 and I am wondering if the dates on items like engines, trannies, generators, starters etc is the six month rule where the date should be within six months of the assembly date of the car or is it closer. What is the average time span on these parts?
    Thanks in advance

Re: C1 Parts Dates vs Assembley Date

    Sheldon,

I did a frame-off on my 1957 from 1999 to 2003. Most items were within a month or two of the build date (May 57). Generator, distributor, carbs, radiator, engine, trans, R/E, and heads, all were dated in April of 57. The battery (original) was dated C-7 (Mar 57), not used for judging. Other parts had chalk dates and letters. Front cross member, read EG 4/3, and the bellhousing read "EG" 4-8, that means, 270hp dated April and the second number may be the date or the line number, unknown at this time. My diagnosis was, all that I observed were within 1-2 months from build date, except the battery. Good luck.

I agree with Ed, however for judging purposes the 6 month rule applies. Also the build date has an effect on the time frame.
