I'm restoring my 71 LT1. Frantically trying to get it ready for Frisco, TX. Last time it was judged, they said it had a 1972 carb. The engine build date is 12/02/70. Am I correct that the carb date should precede the engine build date? Engine was assembled in Flint. Or would the carb have been installed in St. Louis at a later date? Any help is appreciated.

Re: LT1 Carburetor
Carburetors were installed at St Louis therefore the date should preceed the build date of the car by 6 months or less. For early C3s we base the build date of the car on the date stamped on the trim tag.
TIP: A glance in the AIM (Assembly Instruction manual) for your year Corvette will show you where the part was installed. If the part has a part number in the call out list on the illustrated page, it was installed at St Louis. If it has a square with a diagonal slash and half the squae black and half white it was Assembly Installed by Others -- or part of a assembly delivered to St Louis -- such as an engine transmission or supension component.Terry- Top
