    65FI spark plug wire configuration

What type of distributor terminal-boot did original spark plug wires have for a 65 fuelie? Straight or Right angle? The JG does not give this detail. My gut tells me right angle connectors to fit under the shielding, but I do not know for sure.

Also, I have a set of AC Delco replacement wires - no. 508N - they have straight connectors. My car has some delco replacements from 2002 with distributor connectors of about 110deg angle. Does anyone know a part no for a set with that type of connector? The AC Delco site does not give any available.

    Thanks

    Gary

The clue is a quick look at the AIM, it clearly shows the right angle distributor boots on the L84 engine. The GM parts book also lists a special set for the FI engine. The reason is the added height of the distributor to allow for the Fuel Pump drive system. GM parts book (1965) part number for FI -2987482, non-FI 2986604 (group 2.239

Gary, The distributor cap is special also. It has lower towers for the plug wires for the same reason.

the fi cap was also used on the 394 ci olds engines of the late 50's and early 60's. check out your olds dealers if any still exist in your area.mike

Dr. Mike, No Olds dealers in my area but we do have a nice NAPA warehouse.
If you are not having your car judged and want a nice lot tower black cap with copper ask for a RR168. 20 bucks or less.

If looking for an NOS one, I believe it is a D-310 delco part in the orange and white boxes.

Found this short-tower on a '64 Olds junkyard hearse, converted to a hippie wagon. Kept the plug wires as well; 90 degree boots at cap; wires dated 4-Q-63. [added 2nd pic]
