Is it better/easier to remove the hood with the hinges or without? Does leaving the hinges in place on the car make it easier to align the hood on replacement?

Re: 66 hood removal
Over the years I've found it easier to remove the hinges from the hood. Mark them so you have approximate alignment going back on. I would not remove the hinges from the fenders unless there was a need to. This is a two person task. Easy to remove, little more difficult going back but not hard task at all.- Top

Re: 66 hood removal
I agree with Carl, removing the hood from the hinges is pretty easy with a partner. I use blue painter's tape on the hood along 2 edges of each hinge to get a precise location when it goes back on. I also slip a wash cloth or shop towel between the hood edge and the fender. Tim- Top

Thanks Carl. Leaving the hinges on the car seems to be the best bet. Marking them to aid in the installation is a good idea. Thanks again.- Top

Re: 66 hood removal
Richard,
I have removed my hood a couple of times to do work on my 66. I have marked the bolt locations with a "sharpie" and just removed the hood leaving the hinges in place. The removal is very easy. Make sure you have a helper. One note, when reinstalling the hood I recommend careful adjustment before closing the hood all of the way.

Re: 66 hood removal
Now if you need to do alone - same cloths & perhaps a few more. Remove one bumper & grill that gets those hinge bolts exposed at the bottom which you can remove with the hood closed (not latched). Push hood up, slide cloths under edges all around & lift off.
Install in reverse order - lining up as needed.
Lots more work however very simple for a one man job.- Top

Re: 66 hood removal
Thanks. Marking the hood with a sharpie or tape before removal would give a good starting point when putting the hood back on the car. I will be calling on my friends to help me remove the hood, engine and transmission. They are always busy when I need help moving, but always around now that I have a 66 Corvette. Thanks again.- Top
