Re: 1972 Big Block Smog A.I.R. Pump Question

    Joe,
As I mentioned yesterday, after double checking all the numbers, I had come to the conclusion it was off a small block . I am not sure what size spacer the base motor used, but if I am not mistaken, the LT-! spacer is 3/4". That is what is with this sysyem.
I got a little mixed up on a few of these things becasue a buddy of mine ended up bringing over an original 72, big block smog set-up he has. There is also a 68 Camero diverter valve,a 74 Chevelle pump and a bunch of other stuff.

I still have one bin in storage. I know it has some big parts in it too,but I cannot remember what is in it. It is very heavy. Like the other bins, this stuff was put away over twenty five years ago.

As soon as I take some pictures, I will send them over.

    Talk to you soon

    Monte

      An Update:
      Joe,
I just wanted to give credit where credit is due. Especially after you have gone out of your way to do a few things for me.
I finally got a hold of the second owner again. I had been dealing with the original owner. The original owner said all the original equipment (smog) went with the car when it was sold to the second owner. This turns out to be true.

The car was original to Utah. The second owner bought the car while he was still living in Utah. Because the smog stuff was already off the car he did not keep a good eye on it, as many did the same way back when.

Anyway, after owning the car for a few years, he was transferred to Southern California. The 1972, 454 was not sold in California, so at the time he registered it here the state of California wanted it as it left the factory. With the A.I.R. system on it.

He said he tried to locate the original system, but it was long gone in one of the trades he did back then.
So, when he got to California he went to a wrecking yard and pulled the smog system off a 72. It turned out to be an LT-1. He went to GM and ordered a set of smog tubes and a pump bracket and made the system work to get the car registered.

After getting the car registered in California, he once again took the smog off the car and put it in the bins with all the other original parts that had been removed. The intake, exhaust manifold, and a bunch of small stuff.

He thought about putting the car back to stock, so he ordered a new fan, one of the exhaust manifolds was cracked is why one of mine has a 78 date on it. I still have the NOS tipped fan. He also ordered everything from new tail lenses, exhaust tips, wheather stripping, pillar trim and tons of other stuff. He never got around to fixing the car before his son got extremely sick and he had to sell the car.

So this is why there is a 1972 smog pump on the car with an LT-1 dirverter valve and correct dated hoses and hose clamps.
      Thanks again for you input,
      Monte

I'd like to see a photo of the pump if you can get one.
