    68 Frame markings

I have a Oct 25 67 build date on my convertible corvette. I need to mark the shim count on the frame. I've read that the shim markings could be white numbers or lines for 68. Does anyone have a build date close to my build date and can you tell me if the markings are white numbers or lines? Also, is a zero used when there are no shims? I plan on marking the shim count location as follows: #1 body mount: the marking is forward to the mount, #2&3 body mounts: the markings are under the mounts, #4 body mount the mark is forward to the mount. I've checked the archive and judging manual and restoration guides but did not find the information I need. Any help would be appreciated. I plan on completing my frame in a week so I need the info quickly. Thanks, John...........

Oct 9 = Lines. It's been to long. I can't help with your other questions.

Mine is Oct 19, I believe based on S/N. Trim Tag is MIA. I did not see any markings for number of shims on my frame when I started the restoration.

My hunch would be no mark for any mount not requiring shims.

You have an earlier build 69 that would have White Roman Numerals 1 line for each shim till the 5th line would then be a diagonal line thru the other 4 vertical lines and so on. The norm is #2 markings fwd of mount #3 aft of the mount #4 fwd of the mount and #5 fwd of the mount a zero or no mark indicates no shim. Most people are unaware that the #1 mount is just fwd of the radiator and what most of us call the number#1 mount is the #2 mount. If you look at the photo I posted you will see the marks fwd of the fwd suspension. Those shims were used under the front bumper brackets at the Batwing. The frame extension would cover the markings most of the time. Here is a photo of a 66 (I think) frames on the assembly line showing the shim markings that would be very similar to your 69. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. Paul I have an earlier 68 (10/25/67 build). You came up with the most information and the 66 frame picture was helpful. I'll still follow your description because I have a feeling the change over to numbers occurred durring year 1969.

                Paul,

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was determined for the new manual that '68's had the arabic numerals on the frame for the shim count and a zero was placed when there were no shims needed.
