    C1- what is this part?

1961 Corvette - This part fell from under the dash and cannot find any location or identification in an assembly manual. Does anyone know what this part is and/or where it belongs?

OK, are all these pictures of the same part? Did it fall out on the driver's side or passenger's side? What are the dimensions of the item? I frankly can't tell from the picture if it is two inches long taken as a closeup or a foot long...Did the bolts that should have been screwed into the nutplates fall out also? If so, what size?

sorry about that, all the same piece. A formed brace with 4x5/16" nutplates. 3in wide on small end, 4in wide on big end. small end is formed up square and perpendicular, wide end is formed up square and about 45 degrees to length. this brace is about 11in's long an i think it came from the drivers side. I disassembled the body and rolled it over to work on the underside, when i rolled back up-right this brace was on the floor. the angle/length/paint align with drivers side lower firewall to doorpost support but i can't ANY holes to match this brace. thanks for any help.

I don't recall seeing a part like that on mine, but............

I would suggest doing a page turn of the AIM with the part in your hand and see if anything catches your eye. Then you can go out and check the car.

It's a brace that fits above the radio area. The wider side gets bolted the the right side instrument cluster frame. There will be 2 holes in the cluster framework. 2 bolts pass through from right front then into the captive nuts. The smaller end is for the grab bar left side attachment "T" bracket.

I don't have a AIM handy but I see it is shown on page 215(top right diagram) of Noland Adams Vol 1 Restoration book.

(edit.......also on page 250, showing Bracket Assembly, and where the bolts on the left side are located)

Richard, thank you for the info. I tried the brace in said location and it fit perfectly. I believe this brace was never completely reinstalled after the car was stolen, stripped, recovered, reassembled and drag raced prior to me. thank you again, Dominic
