    Floor Carpet Color

I recently purchased new interior for my 57 (Venetian Red). The seat covers look good - correct color. The floor carpet they sent me looks good, but it is not Venetian Red. It is more like Sportsman Red. What is the correct color suppose to be?

Hope I don't have to send this back. -Dan-

neither of our 57's, both duntov award winners, suffered any deductions with al knoch's red rugs. i like his rugs so much, i installed al's carpet in our 57 olds wagon and the 41 willys pickup that was at altoona. mike

Guy's, I only want to know what the correct carpet color for 57 is. Is it Venetian Red, like the rest of the interior, or is the carpet more red than orange?

I don't want to install the wrong color.

            Re: Floor Carpet Color

Dan, when I removed the original carpet from my "red" interior '57 it was 7 years old but the car had been garaged much of the time since new and the rest of the interior was not faded. (The door panels, kick panels, and rail upholstery were/are the same hue as the headliner which has not been in direct sun.) The carpet was not as red as Sportsman carpet or vinyl, but rather a more dull orange/red, less "red-orange" than the Venetian vinyl. I currently have "repro" '57 red carpet in it and it is more red than the original, possibly/likely because the original had seven years wear. I agree with Mike about Knoch's carpet.

              Thanks Steve,

Based on this, I think I may be okay. Photo below shows the Venetian Red seats and the floor carpet. I should have photoed the drivers side with the heal pad. My heal pad is red leather grained vinyl, but is a different color red than either the carpet or seats. According to the TIM&JG (I have 4th edition) most heal pads were black, but some could be red. The stitching is all black except the heal pad. Heal pad stitching is black, but it appears they dyed it red on the top. The heal pad is not a perfect rectangle, but tapers slightly on the long sides. Does this sound correct?

              Thanks -Dan-

Hi Dan.I have loaded a few pictures showing the seats and original carpet in my 57 bowtie car. As you can see the carpet is more red than the seats.Hope this helps. I think it is time you purchased the fifth edition manual. The new manual states that "Driver's heel protector padis leather grain black vinyl on all carpets. DSC01392A.jpgDSC01391A.jpgDSC01378A.jpg

Hi Dave, thank you so much sir.

I did not know there was a latter version of the TIM&JG until today. I have only had edition 4 for about 3 years.

I will call Corvette America tomorrow and see what they have to say, and will post the results.

A pic of your heal pad would be good, if you don't mind.

                  -Dan-

p.s. You sure have a beautiful car.

                      Great Dave,

Good pics, and I have something concrete to present to Corvette America. I can see that it is tapered, like mine. I presume the stitching is black.

I think the only thing wrong with mine is the heal pad color. Everything else appears to look like yours.

I didn't have anything to go on as mine had a black carpet in it, and it was all beat up as well. But I have all original kick panels, door panels, etc. While they are not perfect, they are not in bad shape and I am keeping everything as original as I can.

I think C.A. did a good job on the seat covers, they look good. Used my springs, sandblasted and painted them before sending to C.A., so everything here looks brand new. The rails are all cleaned up and ready to go as well.

                      I will keep you advised.

                      Thanks again. -Dan-

                        Hi Dan,
I have a question for you on your seats. Do you think that you removed the original seat covers from you seats or do you think that they were replaced at anytime before you purchased the car. If you think they are original could you describe the depth of the waffle squares.
On my original seats the waffle pattern depressions are much more shallow than the squares in the door panels or the kick panels. Seat panels are almost smooth when compared the door or kick panels.
I would also like to hear from anyone who thinks they have original seat covers.
                        Thanks for you help
                        Dave

                          Hi Dave Again,

I have every reason to believe my seat covers were original, but I think I may have thrown them out once I got the new ones. I don't remember (don't get old). I will check for you and see if I have them packed away someplace.

If your diamonds are more shallow it could be from setting on them for years has flattened them out. If that is the case, then the bottom cushions would be flatter than the back cushions. I don't believe mine were as shallow as you describe or I think I would have noticed it.

                          -Dan-

                            Hi Dan,
I should have mentioned in my last post that back and seat cushions have the same depth in the squares.
Really appreciate you looking to find you old seats.

Hi Dave, I have looked in all my storage places and no joy. I kind of remember, (old brain - not much good), I hand delivered my seats to C.A. last year and took the old covers with me. They asked me if I wanted them back and I said no. I usually keep all the old stuff, just in case, but I think I blew this one.

I did look at my new seats again and the depressions are at least as deep as the kick and door panels. What else I observed, with the new seats, is the diamonds are larger than the ones in the kick and door panels. They have the same center distance spacing, but they definitely are larger. Are your diamonds all the same size?

Sorry I can't be of more help.
