How do you identify F41 suspension?

    I have a 1966 427 - 425 and I would like to know if the car came with a F41 suspension?

    Any pointers?

    Thanks

One clue is the front stabilizer bar - it was 15/16" on an F41 car, and 7/8" on non-F41 427's. Another is the very unique large-diameter rear shocks with the large, thick washer at the top (see photo below), and F41 also had a 7-leaf rear spring (vs. 9 on a non-F41 car).

In addition to the information that John offered is there a part number tag on the front springs or do they have a dark green stripe.

7 leaf rear would be consistent with F-41, how about the shocks and front bar?

I'm trying to figure out if my survivor car has the F-41 Suspension. It still has the part number tag on the front drivers side coil spring and has the 7 leaf rear spring. What part number is the F-41 coil spring? Unfortunately the rear shock were replaced with air shocks "back in the day". The front shocks are still the original. Thanks for the help.

It was not uncommon back in the day to replace the rear spring with the 7-leaf variety. It is the easiest, along with the front stabilizer bar, part of the F-41 to replace. The hardest are the lower rear shock mounts, although some might argue the front spring is harder. Check for the number forged on the lower rear shock mounts, or the front spring tag -- if you can see it.

The front springs should have 7 complete coil turns. If you can get a caliper on one of the coils, the wire diameter is 0.688". The part # is 3832518, code EA on the dark green (not yellow => later service) tag.

Here are the rear lower shock mounts for a NON-F41 car (last 3 cast digits are 929 and 930). The F41 (no angle) are now the service replacement. So if your car has these shown below, chances are it was not F41.

Okay, mine has the original green EA tag with the part number still on the drivers side coil spring. I will have to look at the lower shock mounts now and take a caliper to the front sway bar. Thanks for the help.

I have found calipers are difficult to maneuver to ensure accuracy. An open end wrench used like a go/no go gauge is easier and simpler.
