    Cargo Area Question '65

The two little cargo tubs behind the seats (one for the jack, the other empty): did these originally come with a piece of carpet in the bottom of them? Thanks for any guidance.

The answer is yes (early cars). Gene Dressen has an article on this subject in the RESTORER, Winter 1980. He did a survey and estimated that cars with carpet pads ranged from VINs 1910 to 5128.

Probably had something to do with rattling of the wrench head against the fiberglass compartment floor. May have been eliminated when the rubber boot was added to the wrench head. AIM revision of 10-19-64 shows this addition, along with hold-down spring end (second hook).

(to all) BTW, where is Gene nowdays ? He owned a beautiful black/white fuelie VIN 2111 back then.

The carpet issue is addressed in Noland Adams' book. Early cars had it installed under the jack.

Wayne, don't know about Gene but '65 2111 showed up at Bloomington for judging again this summer.
