    C2 Soft Top storage

Anyone have any ideas about storing a C2 soft top in an open position to prevent the wrinkles.

I have the hardtop on my 67 and have removed the soft top. I have one of those hard storage racks.

Any ideas on modifying the hardtop rack to store the soft top in an unfolded position.

I store my original `66 open with two bricks hanging off of the rear pins. Thats probably not what you want to do though.

Just asking but why not put the soft top on the car & store the hard top. I never put my hard top on unless I am showing NCRS. A folded top will shrink over time so I always have my soft top up when my Corvettes are stored.

        Re: C2 Soft Top storage

Well I figured out how to put an open C2 soft top on a hardtop rack.

Pretty easy, here's all I needed:

Just a couple of modified S clips and 2 36" bungi cords.

        Here's the assembly:

The S clips go around the top bar of the rack and hang the soft top from the first bow. The bungi cords go from the soft top latch, around the bottom bar of the rack to the rear bow. This holds the soft top nice and tight in an open position. I put some foam padding over the first and second bows to protect the top.

Now I can put a cover over the rack, and roll it to a corner of the garage where I used to store the hard top.

And now I will have the room in the back for luggage (and parts) for a trip. Maybe I won't need the Samsonite on the back for the next Road Tour.

        Just having fun

Jerry, what the f*** are you doing???? Just install the soft top like the world was meant to be... and hang the hard top from the wall like the "garage art" that it is. If you need the luggage space, buy a coupe.

            Sorry Paul,

I really like the hard top on my 67. Had it on when I moved from NY to CA in 69. Everything I owned in the car including the soft top.

For many years, I would take the hard top off in the spring and put it back on in the fall. I found that where I live (Sonora, CA), top down driving time was limited. Either it was too hot or too cold.

I've just recently restored the hard top, and it looks like when it was new and I was 24. I like the look. And now with the Vintage Air system, I can drive it anytime and take long trips.

I guess it is, to each his own.

D*** Jerry, now I'm sorry too. You're right of couse. Obviously many people who wanted the open air freedom of a convertible may have also wanted the security of a hard top, especially if they were driving the car every day.

I still don't understand why a lovely place like Sonora would'nt be condusive to a topless drive every day.

Put your top down when you drive and up when it is parked.
                That will help prevent wrinkles.
I always leave my tops up and latched when in the garage.
