HI Frank,
I measured a NOS one and got 1.706.
I'm guessing the one you have is a service replacement because I've not seen those numbers/letters cast into the front outer ring except on service replacements.

The "M-C" denotes malleable cast iron which is the material that the balancer outer ring is cast from. I don't know what the balancer hub is cast from but it's either gray or nodular iron.

I'll throw in with Scott, Larry and Frank with their balancer mystery. I have a mid-april 1966 L79 with A/C, no P/S and have the same finless balancer.

Thanks for the info. If you ever get the chance, it would be interesting to see if it has similar markings as the one I have. What serial number is your car? Mine is 120080.
