    Carb Help Needed

I recently bought my first Corvette.. a 1967 Convertible with an automatic trans and the 327/300 engine.
Can someone please tell me what the correct carb for this car is so I can search it out? The car has a later year carb with electric choke and would have been for an air conditioned car.

I want to put back the correct carb ... Thanks ....

You want a Holly #3810. They are available new as a service replacement, or you can search for a reconditioned original.

The current service replacement will have deductions in judging, but will perform as new/original. If you try to buy a reconditioned original, then make certain that you get a recommended and REPUTABLE source for the carb.

Can you suggest a source that is trusted? And is there a specification to be able to hook up the automatic transmission kick-down assembly?

        Re: Carb Help Needed

I haven't personally had any experience with them, but Chicago Corvette does a lot with carburetors and parts. They might have a date coded carburetor if you give them a call. I'm sure that others will have someone they know of that deals in carburetors. The #3810 was used on the 1967 300 & 350 HP engines I believe as well as other displacements that year. The kick down will probably attach to the small ball at the bottom of the primary throttle shaft lever. (just guessing') I don't know that there would be any carburetor differences between manual and automatic transmission cars. Someone know for sure?

          Steve,

I would recommend being very careful with Chicago Corvette. I would only buy from them face to face.

          Mark,

You might try Eric Jackson, Jerry Luck or Bob Kunz. Do a search for them on this board to get their phone number.

Eric Jackson/Vintage Musclecar Parts, in Ohio,937-836-5927. They have a website you can check out. He rebuilds and restores and may have one for sale as well. David Sokolowski sells original parts, he's in Southern California, 310-329-5334. He usually has a bunch of ads in Hemmings. There are others as well if you search the TDB. And you'll get some more responses. Eric Jackson restored my 66 Holley and it worked great right out of the box. Good Luck! Mike

Based on your reply, I assume that you want a restored original. Be aware, they are not inexpensive (ie. $$$$$).

That being said, try Eric Jackson at Vintage Musclecar Parts (www.vintagemusclecarparts.com). Also Custom Rebuilt Carburetors (www.customrebuiltcarbs.com). Also try Daytona Carburetor in Florida (I do not have their web address.....so you need to Google it).

The NCRS Driveline may also have adds from some members who are selling one of these carbs. So check it out also.

Two big players in this business are David Crane in California and Chicago Corvette in Illinois. However, their reputation has not always been the best. You may get a good deal, and then you may not. So if you consider them, pay attention.........

Bob Kunz and Jerry Luck are also great places for repair/restoration work, but I have not heard much about them recently. They may be semi-retired or retired from this business. But you can go on-line and Goggle the names for their contact information. At one time, they were the best in the business.

I am sure that others will provide additional information and leads. WELCOME to NCRS and this forum.

                  Larry,

Last I heard, Bob Kunz is semi-retired and his son Robbie is taking over the business. I think Jerry Luck still does some carb restorations, but may not be the best choice if you are in a hurry.

Larry, if you want one correct for your car, you will need to provide the vendor with your serial # and possibly the build date of your engine. I got lucky and found mine on e-bay with the help of fellow NCRS members. Good hunting and be patient!

                      Re: Carb Help Needed

Here is the original Holley #3810, which was installed on my car in '67. As you can see, the list # is 3810 and the build date is "763".

7 is for the seventh month of the year and build year. (1967)
6 is for the sixth month of the year. (June)
3 is for the 3rd week of June.

The engine build date is July 2, 1967, so the carb build date precedes the engine build date by a week or so, which is good. PT

                              Steve -

Manual vs. automatic transmissions didn't affect the carburetor on 67's - 300hp and 350hp, manual or automatic (300hp only), all used the Holley 3810 with the ball at the bottom of the throttle lever. The Powerglide kickdown linkage adjustment procedure is shown in the '67 Assembly Manual, section M35, sheet A9.
