On a C4 removing spare tire the gas tank whick is above has rust on the seam. For NCRS judging they check that so does anyone know how to remove the rust? WD40, steel wool and degreasers didn't work. What metal is the tank made out of? Would you use rust remover chemical? Did anyone have the same issue? Let me know

The tank is made of terne (tin) coated steel. I'd probably use a BRASS wire wheel on a drill to remove the rust. However, a rust removing chemical might do the trick, too. If it's just surface rust, either should be sufficient to remove it. Keep in mind that any method you use is going to remove some of the tin coating. In fact, that you have rust here, at all, indicates the tin coating has been compromised, either by the corrosion itself or otherwise, in this area.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Paul try a little lacquer thinner and maybe a light rub with 600 grit sandpaper. Go slow and monitor the results. Also, you may want to dampen the area with some EVAPO-RUST, it's "super safe and eliminate rust effortlessly in minutes." I have tried this stuff and it actually works. Autozone sells it.
