    Pertronix Coil

Just had a Pertronix (basic) ignition installed. I'm going to put on the 40000 volt coil to match. Do I get the 3ohm or 5ohm ??

1967 327/300 all stock ... Except the breakerless ignition ...

Mark, I can't answer your question but wonder why you are changing the coil. I have run a Pertronix in both of my cars for years with a stock coil and never had a problem. Good luck, Don H.

I put in a Pertronix many years ago (8-19-99, it was one of the first units they made for my 985 dual point distributor) and it has run perfectly using a stock GM coil.
And I have put 20,000 miles on the car.

When I ran the basic Pertronix unit, I too used a stock coil along with the stock ballast resistor. When I changed to the Pertronox II unit, I switched to their 45K volt coil and by-passed the resistor as it called for. Love it.

I assume that you're using the basic "Ignitor" trigger, and not the "Ignitor II". If so, then you need the 1.5 ohm coil. See this application chart:

Most unobtrusive is the 40011 (you don't need an epoxy filled coil). Remove the decal and it looks almost like the stock coil. You MUST eliminate the ballast resistor with this setup. Best way to do it is to install a shunt along the back side, and connect the 12v wires in the conventional way. Nobody will know.
