    435 sequential vin engine pads-comments?

Many people probably haven't seen sequential vin engine pads. Here is an example showing 3 435 pads from 1967. There is a wide variation in appearance of the pad surface and the dates- 1/13,12/23,12/06. Comments anyone?

My father taught me you won't learn much about Krugerrands if all you study are wooden nickels.

Wow, very interesting indeed. I've never seen sequential comparisons like that before. I'm not a pad expert, but one of them is the clear favorite for being original...and one is really bad....and one is somewhere in between.

I really hope some pad experts weigh in here, but I could understand if they don't.

Whereas some things are a can of worms, this issue is a corral of cobras. My general comment is that the St. Louis assembly line worker(s), were better trained and practiced at stamping engine pads, whereas the "restampers" (a kind word) are in the hundreds (and growing daily I suspect), most unpracticed with crude equipment compared to factory. But the holy grail of Corvettes, the '67 L71, remains a powerful draw to them.

So are all of the pads with sequential VINs restamps? Or is one real and the other 2 re-stamps? It would seem to me that for sequential VINs, the pad stamps should be very similar with the same exact number/letter fonts.

So 1 of the 3 is real?

I'm beginning to wonder if this hobby is for me...

You have to have a thick skin, have to not take yourself or your car (more importantly) too seriously, and do your homework and learn from mistakes. You have to be able to take disappointments, rejections, and tacky people who may be out to get your money for forgeries and frauds, and be able to suspect and verify when you "trust" openly. A lot like life.....
