    390 hp redline

Have asked before, but never got an explanation: Redline for '66 390 hp BB ws 5500; redline for '67 390 was 6000. Where did they find extra 500 rpm capability-wasn't this engine the same for both years(or not)?

Irrespective of the difference in tachometer redlines between 1966 and 1967 L-36, the difference in RPM for peak horsepower was only 200 RPM. 1966 L-36 was rated at 5,200 RPM and 1967 L-36 at 5,400 RPM.

While the 1966 and 67 L-36 engines were nearly the same, there were some small internal differences. I don't see how these internal differences could result in a difference in engine RPM operating specifications but maybe Chevrolet engineers did. One difference was the configuration of the oiling system and another difference was the width of the timing set. Another difference was a very slight difference in distributor advance characteristics.
