    70 LT1 Harmonic Balance

I need to purchase a harmonic balance for my 70 LT1. Is there a particular source that reproduces them better than another? I'm not certain I want to go with a repro but I hesitate with buying a used one for similar money.

    Thanks,
    Dave

You can still get this balancer from GM under GM #88960604. However, I believe this balancer has degree marks embossed on the perimeter of the outer ring.

You can also look for an NOS GM #6272224. This balancer is identical to the one originally installed on your engine.

        Re: 70 LT1 Harmonic Balance

The original balancer installed on the 70 LT1 was GM # 3947712 stamped "7712" along with a date code (example: "A 0 F" = Jan. 1970, I believe that the "F" is for the manufacturer). GM # 3947712 was replaced with GM # 6272224 (balancer stamped "2224") in July 1972. The casting number on the back side is "3942538" on both balancers. As Joe mentioned the two balancers appear to be identical except for the stamped numbers.

            Paul,

The balancer you referred to on Ebay is stamped "2224" and dated May 1975 ("E 5 F").
